A young Socotra Star-Chestnut (Sterculia africana socotrana) struggling with overcoming the incessant browsing by the goats. Only by incredible chance will this individual grow a shoot that is high enough to be out of reach for the goats, and thus reach maturity. A mature tree is one of the biggest tree species on Socotra, with an unmistakable trunk that rivals almost all other tree species on Socotra.
Native range is Northeast Tropical Africa, Tanzania to Namibia, South Arabian Peninsula, socotrana variety is endemic to Socotra.
