The mighty Dirhur canyon – the deepest of all canyons on Socotra.
I’m standing on Dixam, looking towards the Firhmin Forest on the other side. Firhmin is the only dragon blood tree forest on Socotra, with more than 32 000 trees. It is estimated there are around 80 000 dragon blood trees in total on Socotra.
Today is a sunny and calm day, very far from the torrents of water gushing down from the surrounding plateaus and mountains during one of the many cyclones! For eons these downpours have slowly eroded the ground into this impressive canyon, and this process will continue for as long as there is anything to erode.
