Skogkløver / Zigzag Clover (Trifolium medium)

Zigzag Clover (Trifolium medium)

Oslo, Norway

At first you might think you’ve encountered a red clover (Trifolium pretense). It is after all red, and it is a clover.

But take a look at those elongated leaves, and the hue and color of the flowers. They are richer and more vibrant than that of the red clover.

I find it around my home and here on the island of Hovedøya in Oslo where it complements all the other colors of the protected flower meadows. Almost all the flower species were at their most pristine and beautiful as they were at the beginning of their flowering, and all the zigzag clovers I encountered were at the stage seen here or younger.

Some have picked this flower in their childhood, as one of many making lovely bouquets for the dinner table, or simply to give to mum or dad as a token of love and appreciation.
