Dusk over Madre de Dios lake

This oxbow lake on the land of the Amazon Research and Conservation Center (ARCC) provides amazing opportunities for observing wildlife of this remote region of the Peruvian Amazon – Madre de Dios – as it’s an oxbow lake, once part of a river, but now separated, and thus a calm and protected lake. Only in the wet season will the lake be flooded and connected to the region around, including the river that once flowed here.

This image is shot right after sunset, and the stars are once again starting to pop out in the sky. A clear sky like this is not something to be missed this time of the year, as without warning fog, clouds or even a thunder storm could appear.
