Croton socotranus is perhaps the most common plant species on Socotra, and it is very variable in response to the conditions of where it grows.
This specimen grows in the southwest of Socotra, where the southwestern monsoon of the summer months brings in mist and fog. In winter it is in the rain shadow of the Haghier mountains and the northeastern monsoon. With no soil this specimen has become a prostrate miniature, where the sole fruit is much bigger than the leaves. With good conditions Croton socotranus can grow to a tree of 3 meters or taller.
Elevation: 409 meters.
