Grey treepie (Dendrocitta formosae)

This is one of many opportunities that just presented itself after I had given up on getting any good captures during my Bhutan journey. I had just finished my morning photo session and was on my way back to the hotel when I saw this group sitting out in the open chit-chatting.

Although grey treepie (Dendrocitta formosae) is common, I’m focused on capturing each species in a unique setting, and although I did capture some prior to this day, none were nearly as lovely as this one.

I have many magpies residing around my home, but they are impossible to capture as they are exceptionally wary. Fortunately these were not so wary and much more interested in vocalising amongst themselves.

As with the magpies of Europe, I love the many non-warning sounds they make.
