Blue-crowned trogon (Trogon curucui)

Amazon Research and Conservation Center (ARCC) has a canopy tower, and that is an excellent way to experience canopy dwellers. Unfortunately I didn’t bring my long lens here this time, so the trogon is somewhat far away.

They can sit for long periods in the same spot, seemingly idle, but the eyes are always focusing on possible meals, or other members of the species. This one was slowly mowing its head and it was fascinating to watch – like some sort of yoga. Out of the blue it took off – without catching anything.
