Peruvian spider monkey (Ateles chamek)

During my 2 weeks in the Bolivian Amazon I only had this very brief encounter. They are always on the move, so dependent on the size of the group they can pass you in less than a minute.

As the encounter happens in a dense jungle and I’m looking high up in the canopy, it’s very hard to a clear shot. In addition you have the high contrast with the very bright sky compared to the shadows of the foliage in which they move.

This group was quite large, so a few of the members were slowing the pace a bit to observe me and serving a brief opportunity for me to photograph them.
