Hemionitis scioana is a common fern found in Socotra’s shady locations, and very easy to recognize during growth as the leaves are covered with a white powdery substance, that later will only be visible on the underside. When the moisture is gone and the leaves wither, they will fold inwards, and reveal the white underside, seen here.
Native range is Ethiopia to Kenya, Socotra, South Arabian Peninsula, Northwest India
Elevation: 213 meters.
