Onion-Leafed Asphodel (Asphodelus fistulosus)

The lush plain of Homhil is an amazingly beautiful sight as it is as short-lived state. In some years the winter rains are meager and sparse, resulting in stunted and short-lived growth before the Homhil plain is but a dusty and lifeless place.

Some of the plant species are inconspicuous and easily missed due to their small size, while other species are prominent and very abundant. Annual Asphodel (Asphodelus tenuifolius) is very common here, and is not endemic to Socotra. The species is native to the Mediterranean.

Native range is Macaronesia to Indian Subcontinent.
