Garden Harlequin (Eulophia petersii)

The walls of Socotra’s Dirhur canyon provide opportunities for many species taking advantage of the opportunities presented in this precipitous environment. The pros are long lasting water seepage through the many cracks in the wall and being out of reach for the goats. The cons are none to very little soil and ability to expand, as gravity and the elements will try to tear you down.

Garden Harlequin (Eulophia petersii) is a specialist able to secureley attach itself to the face of the rock and thrive here, seen by the withered inflorescences. It is also not alone, two aloes are growing alongside the colony.

Native range is Arabia, eastern Africa down to South Africa.
