Purakaunui Falls, New Zealand

On the way to the Purakunai Falls you’ll find this mini-version of the main attraction about half-way between the main road and the falls.

In North America and Eurasia the landscape is on fire with reds and yellows in autumn, but here there are no such deciduous tree species. Europeans longing for that special sign of autumn chose to import deciduous species of particular strong autumn colors, and plant in their gardens, parks and wherever else they chose.

This image is shot in the middle of the autumn, and with no yellow or orange foliage to speak of it’s a sign that this fores has not been contaminated much by European decidious species.
