Socotra sparrow (Passer insularis)

This sparrow is searching for anything edible and seems to be focused on insects as there are no fruits or seeds to be found on the ground as the goats have eaten everything that would normally be bearing seeds now. All that is available are shrubs and trees inedible to the goats.

This is shot in the Firhmin Forest a forest of dragon blood trees which holds the densest population of dragon blood trees (Dracaena cinnabari), but due to the goats the regrowth of these endemic trees is absent. Except for the few sheer cliffs inaccessible to the goats. Fortunately for the sparrows and dragon blood trees there are several sheer cliffs and gorges just a stone’s throw away.
