Turquoise-fronted Amazon (Amazona aestiva)

Many of the parrot species are happy to raid the mango and other fruit trees on the property, but also love the seeds and food handed out by Fazenda San Fransico.

Up close you can see that the apparent (for humans at least) beauty of their colorful plumages may hide injuries and wear of life in the Pantanal. I don’t know how this one could have sustained this kind of damage to its right foot. It looks like the nails have been pulled out!
