Don’t you mean this one?: http://www.ross.no/2012/11/16/altiplano-plant-14/
I see it now – thanks.
I only find white inflorescence online for Fabiana densa, which this one does not have. Is this as subspecies, or is it really varying from white to this very dark and colorful specimen?
Are you sure you found pictures of Fabiana densa? When i google for Fabiana densa i only find lots of pictures of Fabiana imbricata and some other Fabiana species.
According to the german wikipedia ‘The crown is funnel-shaped, measures 10 to 13 (rarely 13.5) mm, often it has red or purple stripes on a yellow background’. I think you can see this characteristics clearly at the opened flowers in your pictures.

You’re right – when looking a bit closer I see that Google return with imbricata when searching hyphenated “fabiana densa”. On Bing I found just one reliable source:
http://www.floraargentina.edu.ar/detalleejemplar.asp?IDEjemplar=350962&colec=&Tipo=1&deDonde=13&NumColec=&Especie=fabiana%20densa
As you can see the inflorescence is much lighter, and the deep blackish/purble base is light and yellow on the floraargentina images.
I did find and compare the same stage with two buds on the photos, but being my first and only encounter with this species, I definitely take your word for it 🙂
Thanks again for your analysis and contribution!
