The Blue-headed Parrots never went down from the trees to the Napo River parrot lick used by most other parrots – and that is the way of the licks. One day they may be inundated by parrots, the next day they might wait and wait and perhaps never go down to the lick. In rain they usually never visit.
Fortunately we checked this close neighbour – a clay lick of sorts – not the moist and smooth clay, but rather a brittle and hard type. Only two of the Blued-headed Parrots landed, and only stayed long enough for me to get 3 exposures. Focus distance is 50 metres.
Even though they are colorful, they are mostly green and that makes them very hard to spot against the green foliage.
