Galápagos passion flower (Passiflora vesicaria galapagensis)

What an incredible shape of the sepals! It seems like a stupendous form of art – but this one is alive and stays so well into the ripening of the fruit, which is kind of unusual.

For once I didn’t touch the plant, so I don’t know what the sticky substance smells like or feels like. This plant is named “foetida” not as a link to foetus, but the unpleasant smell!

Galápagos passion flower (Passiflora vesicaria galapagensis) is endemic to Galapagos.
