The hibiscuses of Socotra are notoriosly difficult to identify as there are so much variation within each species, and between species very minute details that separate them. Most of them have painful stinging hairs of several shapes and sizes to make things even more difficult.
Hibiscus quattenensis, A G Miller (2004):
Leaves broadly ovate or sub-orbicular, base broadly cuneate to trucate, margin entire, tip rounded to obscurely crenate, glabrescent above with sparse, large (2-4 mm) 3-armed hairs beneath. Epicalyx lobes 9 or 10, linear-oblanceloate, 5-9 x 1-4 mm, with a distinct midvein and lamina-like margin, becoming strongly reflexed. Calyx cup-shaped, 10-15 mm long, splitting to below the middle into two, broadly ovate, entire lobes, glabrescent.
Elevation: 212 meters.
