Boswellia ameero

A beautiful specimen of Boswellia ameero with lush foliage accessible to behold up close. This is what it looked like about 10 months ago. I have yet to find one with flowers. Many of them them grow on vertical cliffs with very few ways to reach, so close encounter like this is most welcome. Some grow on hillsides, but getting close to the foliage is difficult as the trees are usually several meters tall with foliage at the very ends of the branches.

This is one of more than 9 species of Boswellia on Socotra – all endemic.

Elevation: 479 meters.

This is the complete list of all the 10 Boswellia species found in the Socotra Archipelago:

Boswellia nana
Boswellia popoviana
Boswellia scopulorum
Boswellia socotrana

Found only on the island of Samha:

In addition there are numerous hybrids and varieties that will keep botanists busy.
