Great white pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus)

Namibia’s Walvis Bay area is rich in wildlife, reliant on the abundance of marine life found in the cold and nutrient rich Atlantic waters, governed by the Benguela Current.

The abundant marine life attracts wildlife and humans in hordes, and with this abundance comes lots of opportunities for those who are able to see them. We know all too well that we don’t want to work harder than necessary, and that applies to wildlife as well, as this pelican is showing here. Professional fishers and tourists alike are the perfect locations for easy pickings, and in particular the tourist boats, as they feed the seals and birds to get a close encounter with the various species.
