Inca Tern (Larosterna inca)

In the harbor and waters around the fishing village of Pucusana in Peru I found lots of inca terns, and some places they were so tame that I could walk among them without disturbing them – other than that they walked a few paces in another direction.

Some had chicks, and still they behave very relaxed in my presence. These two are part of a colony just meters from a house in the bay of the village. Further out towards the open ocean they inhabit most of the properties, and some piers were completely filled with them.
