As the name implies bog orchid (Habenaria melvillei) is an orchid that thrives in very wet environments, and this is as wet as it can be – a float of vegetation on the oxbow lake at the amazon Research and Conservation Center (ARCC) in Peru.
In seems it is on solid ground, but this is in fact a float. Underneath it is very deep in some places, so stepping out of the boat is a no go – I tested with a very long stick and it didn’t reach the bottom! Thus I had to photograph from the boat.
It resembles aricaensis that also grows on floats in Pantanal.
Native range is Venezuela to Brazil.
