It’s impossible to miss hippeastrum morelianum in bloom! Its size, color and beauty is irresistible – you just have to take a closer look!
It prefers shallow soil with good water drainage, so you’ll see it on the slopes alongside the road.
Altitude: 2460 metres.
Native range is southeastern Brazil.

My land is truly blessed! It’s a shame that the people are misusing its resources. The low area of the massif is having it’s native flora replaced by eucalyptus plants over several years, it is known but not atested cientifically that it might have altered the whole biome of the high grounds and the plateau. Anyway, your work is beautiful, very inspiring, thank you for these beautiful images. A little hello from Itatiaia 🙂
Many thanks for your comment!
Indeed you’re land is amazing, but as you point out it’s such a shame how humans are taking it for granted and only doing things that either fragment or destroy what nature has spent so long to develop. The eucalyptus is a pest in so many countries due to humans liking its fast growth, but such a forest is silent like a desert as no birds or only few insects find food off them.
What is happening to the fragmented Atlantic forest is one thing but that of the destruction of the Cerrado is so depressing as what little is left is now being poisoned by the chemicals from the farms that surrounds the remaining patches.
There are powerful people that also want to drain the Pantanal with a super canal for fast transport of goods – can you believe it…?
Take care, guardian of Itatiaia 🙂
