The Condoriri park was a treasure trove of plant species. I wish I had several days here, as my few hours was far from enough to explore all the incredible miniature plants growing here, including this gentiana sedifolia.
Altitude: 4608 metres.
Native range is Venezuela to Bolivia. Central America and Mexico..

Does it really have so many variances – from almost no dark spots to filled almost to the edge? I thougth Gentiana
sedifolia’s dark spots were limited only to the close proximity of the center
From what i can say this species is extremely variable.
It occurs from Tierra del Fuego up to Panama. Some even include this species into Gentiana prostrata, this would mean that this Gentian has a vast, nearly worldwide distribution.
The Andes are an evolution hotspot for many genera, but some genera like Gentiana (Gentiana sedifolia), Primula (Primula magellanica), Saxifraga (Saxifraga magellanica) etc. have very few species in the andes. They entered this continent probably very recently via northamerica, so lets give them some million years to evolve new species. 🙂
Thanks for your insight.
I list it and this one as same species:
