The forest around the Amazon Research and Conservation Center (ARCC) is teaming with insects, and on the base of a tree I found many attracted to sap coming out of the tree. Several species come here, and some are able to eat into the bark and reach the sap. Yet others, like this species, use a proboscis as a straw right into the sap under the bark.

Please help me identify it – leave a comment 🙂
