The locked gate to the most remote part of Chapada dos Guimaraes National Park is guarded by a family of burrowing owls. A nice welcome I think, but if you drive all the way out here, know that you must make an appointment with the park authorities through a local authorized guide. The park will loan the key to the guide, which in turn must drive back to return them long before sunset.
One of them had a few toes missing, and seemed most comfortable resting on one leg.
