Jabiru stork (Jabiru mycteria) is a very large stork, with an equally huge nest! I saw several nests high up in the largest power pylons crossing the Pantanal. They usually build their nest high up in the trees, but the largest power pylons seem irresistible to some pairs.
This couple is browsing for food in the many dwindling ponds around Pousada Xaraés. These ponds are restrictive to their inhabitants, but a buffet for jabirus. In the rainy season it’s the other way around, of course.
