The burrowing owl is one of very few species of owl that is so available to humans. Many species do reside close to human structures and activities, but are nocturnal. You’ll only hear their calls, but visually you’ll only glimpse them in the light of a full moon or when the briefly fly through artificial light.

In this part of Pantanal (Pousada Xaraés) there are no termite mounds, and thus the fence posts are a perfect substitute. They can sit on a pole for a long time looking out for food and danger.

For me this particular fence post, with the mellow light of the low hanging sun from behind was irresistibly beautiful.
