Ocelot (Leopardus pardalis)

One of the great opportunities to encounter wildlife is at night, and on the Fazenda San Fransico they arrange night safaris on their extensive road network, much of which is around the rice fields and canals feeding them with water.

This cub was coming up from one of these canals, and showed no sign of fear of the human scent, lights or car engine. A great sign that they have not been hunted here for a very long time!

Ocelot (Leopardus pardalis)

To see a cub is one thing but with its mother is really special.

Ocelot (Leopardus pardalis)

The mother was equally relaxed around the human presence, and was more focused on caughing up a hairball!
