Many long-billed bird species including storks are attracted to the rice fields of Fazenda San Fransico.

Due to the need of large amounts of water these fields are in fact supporting many species during the dry season.

The water is pumped up in to canals from the lower levels of the property where the river runs large even in the dry season. These canals are filled with vegetation, insects, frogs, toads, caiman and many different species of mammals and birds.

It’s easy pickings for the storks in these rice fields!
