If it doesn’t move, the southern viscacha (Lagidium viscacia) is near impossible to see. The color is so similar to the rocks, sand and shrubs, that it’s only patience or luck that makes you see it.
This was on my way out of the Sajama National park, and it was not far away from the car, and did not seem much disturbed – a good sign they are not hunted by humans in the park.
