There is no sound of engines after you disembark the motorized boat at the welcome center, where the Aanangu creek meets the Napo river. From there all goods and people must be transported by canoes up the creek to the Anangucocha lake. This is a wonderfully silent means of transport, and has an impact on the wildlife similar to humans taking a swim.
What is really impressive is all the building materials and goods being transported in this manner. Paddling with your personal gear and a couple of humans is one thing, but first unloading from the motorized boat to the canoe, then paddling up the creek, then unloading again. Hundreds of kilos! No wonder they want to fill up the canoes as you can see here.
Sneeze and you’ll risk filling the canoe with water!
They do this several times a day, and always a smile on their faces!
Knowing this, I really recommend ordering locally made beverages, and not bottled ones like cola and bear.
