The Erythrina family has some of the most wonderful infloresences of any trees, and this baluy (Erythrina edulis) is no exception.
I arrived at San Isidro Lodge as the twilight was approaching. I was checking out the grounds and was greeted by this one branch hanging down low enough for me to photograph it.
Some species grow incredibly tall and the flowers are out of reach for a human.
Altitude 2109 metres.
Native range is Venezuela to Bolivia.
