Nacreous clouds

Unknown why, this winter has seen an explosion of nacreous clouds, and this must be the strongest of them all!

You never know if the sunset will reveal nacreous clouds, but the wind might indicate a possibility. Oslo lies east of the long north-south mountain range, and when the conditions are right the strong southwestern winds will push high up on the western side of the range and hopefully produce these magnificent clouds on the eastern side. Today was one such day!

Fortunately I brought my camera to work in Oslo, so I could share this extraordinary bright display.

Nacreous clouds are also called Mother of Pearl clouds.
